ABLES: Expanding Access Through Technology and Education

What ABLES Is About
ABLES is One Matter’s technology access and educational support program. It helps remove practical barriers to learning by connecting underserved Caribbean communities with devices, digital access, educational resources, and opportunities to build useful technology skills.

Technology Access
ABLES helps place laptops, tablets, digital tools, and learning opportunities with individuals and communities that may otherwise have limited access to them. The program also supports virtual technology classes and practical digital-skills training.
Educational Support
ABLES provides school supplies, learning materials, and other educational resources that help students and families participate more fully in learning.
Beginning with locally guided efforts in Antigua and Barbados, ABLES is designed to grow through community partnerships, diaspora support, volunteers, donors, and subject-matter experts.
The Challenges We Respond To
Access to opportunity is often limited by practical barriers. Students, families, and community members may have the motivation to learn but lack the equipment, supplies, connectivity, or guidance needed to participate fully.
ABLES responds to challenges such as:
- Limited access to reliable laptops, tablets, and digital tools.
- The cost of school supplies and educational materials.
- Limited access to practical digital-skills training.
- Technology donations that are not coordinated around verified local needs.
- Gaps between available diaspora resources and the communities that could benefit from them.
- Limited access to specialized learning in areas such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and other technology fields.
What We’re Doing About It
ABLES connects community needs with practical resources and learning opportunities.
The program works to:
- Collect and responsibly place donated laptops, tablets, and other usable technology.
- Provide educational and school supplies based on identified community needs.
- Connect participants with virtual technology classes and digital-skills training.
- Work with trusted local organizations to identify appropriate recipients and opportunities.
- Develop volunteer-led learning sessions in areas such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and other technology topics.
- Track resources delivered, people supported, and learning opportunities provided.
- Build a repeatable model that can responsibly expand into additional Caribbean communities.
Who’s Involved
ABLES is coordinated by One Matter in collaboration with trusted community organizations, technology partners, volunteers, donors, educators, and members of the Caribbean diaspora.
Local partners help identify needs and guide implementation within their communities. Diaspora supporters and organizational partners contribute technology, educational resources, expertise, funding, and connections.
As the program grows, volunteers and subject-matter experts will also help deliver virtual classes and focused learning sessions.
