B-READY: Strengthening Preparedness and Community Resilience

What B-READY Is About

B-READY is One Matter’s disaster preparedness and community resilience program. It helps communities move from reactive support toward earlier planning, stronger coordination, and more sustainable readiness.

The program connects local knowledge with diaspora resources, professional expertise, practical training, and trusted organizational partners. Its purpose is to help communities better understand their risks, prepare essential resources, strengthen local response capacity, and recover more effectively after disruption.

B-READY is designed to complement—not replace—the work of emergency services, governmental agencies, established relief organizations, and local authorities.

Preparedness

B-READY promotes practical planning before an emergency occurs. This may include preparedness education, community readiness resources, continuity planning, training, and guidance for households and local organizations.

Resource Coordination

The program helps connect verified community needs with appropriate supplies, funding, professional expertise, technology, transportation support, and diaspora networks.

Resilience and Recovery

B-READY supports locally guided efforts that help communities restore essential activities, strengthen their capacity, and reduce vulnerability to future disruptions.

The Challenges We Respond To

Caribbean communities regularly face hurricanes, flooding, infrastructure disruption, public-health emergencies, and other events that can affect daily life, essential services, businesses, schools, and local organizations.

The impact of these events can be made worse by:

  • Limited access to preparedness information and practical planning resources.
  • Gaps in emergency supplies, equipment, communications, and technology.
  • Insufficient continuity planning among small community organizations.
  • Support arriving only after a crisis has already occurred.
  • Uncoordinated donations that do not reflect verified local needs.
  • Limited communication between communities and members of the diaspora who want to assist.
  • Difficulty identifying trusted partners for transportation, distribution, and recovery support.
  • Short-term relief efforts that do not build lasting local capacity.

What We’re Doing About It

B-READY is developing a practical framework for preparedness, coordinated support, and community resilience.

The program works to:

  1. Share practical preparedness information, checklists, and educational resources.
  2. Work with local organizations to identify risks, resource gaps, and community priorities.
  3. Support preparedness training, workshops, and community planning sessions.
  4. Connect local needs with diaspora volunteers, donors, businesses, and subject-matter experts.
  5. Build relationships with trusted organizations that can support logistics, communications, supplies, technology, and recovery.
  6. Coordinate in-kind contributions around verified needs rather than collecting unsuitable or unnecessary items.
  7. Support continuity and recovery planning for community organizations and essential local services.
  8. Create repeatable processes that can be adapted for different Caribbean communities.
  9. Track preparedness activities, resources mobilized, organizations supported, and communities reached.

Who’s Involved

B-READY is coordinated by One Matter in collaboration with local community organizations, volunteers, diaspora networks, businesses, donors, emergency-preparedness professionals, and other trusted partners.

Local organizations and community leaders help identify priorities, guide implementation, and ensure that support reflects actual conditions on the ground. Diaspora participants can contribute funding, supplies, expertise, professional connections, and logistical support.

As the program develops, One Matter may also collaborate with emergency-management agencies, healthcare organizations, schools, technology providers, transportation partners, and established relief organizations.

Only publicly name organizations after the relationship and logo use have been formally approved.

Strengthen Readiness Before the Next Crisis

Support preparedness training, contribute essential resources, share professional expertise, or partner with One Matter to help communities plan earlier and respond more effectively.
